Helmut Newton, photographer

Photographer born October 31, 1920 in Berlin, Germany. He is interested in photography from an early age. Born to a Jewish father, Helmut Newton was forced to leave Germany for Singapore in 1938. Subsequently, he joined Australia and joined the Australian Army. After the war, Helmut Newton returned to his first love: photography. He opened a small studio and began a freelance photographer career. Appreciated for its sensual photographic style, he made several shots for Vogue Australia and Playboy. In 1956 he moved to Paris. His artistic signature rage: Suggested sexuality, sensuality and ultra-femininity. Helmut Newton works for a multitude of French fashion magazines, and signed his first contract with Vogue Paris.

In the 70s, Helmut Newton perfected his productions. It reveals the legs of the models, features suggestive poses, the footprint of hotels decorations, airplanes, cars and luxurious villas. With its success, he made portraits of personalities including Pierre Cardin, Salvador Dali, Andy Warhol and Elizabeth Taylor. In the 80s and 90s, he immortalized the tops Cindy Crawford, Claudia Schiffer, Karen Mulder and Kate Moss. In 1984, the Museum of Modern Art in Paris devoted a major retrospective. In October 2003, Helmut Newton donated 1,000 pictures in Berlin Museum of Photography, his hometown. These archives are always exposed. In the last years of his life, Helmut Newton resides in Monte Carlo, then Los Angeles. He died January 23, 2004 in Los Angeles, at the wheel of his car. In spring 2012, the Grand Palais in Paris dedicates a large retrospective.
